Just as the sleek green bottle projects, Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit offers the clean, crisp, and refreshing scent of a delicate spring garden.
Launched in 2011, this fresh fruity scent was formulated by the talented nose of Jean-Claude Ellena. It is enjoyed by both men and women and the name translates to “a garden on the roof.”
The cheerful notes of Un Jardin Sur Le Toit were designed to reflect the secret garden atop the Hermes building in Paris. The perfume opens with lively top notes of apple, pear, and rose. In the middle, the scent of grass reminds one of summer, followed by the finishing and lasting smells of fresh magnolias.
So, what does Un Jardin Sur Le Toit smell like?
We felt that it is certainly suitable for both men and women. However, the top and middle scents appear in the opposite order. The grassy smells are very clear at first, then floral scents begin to appear after an hour.
If you enjoy perfume that changes flavors often, this may be the one for you. Interestingly enough, it seemed to change scents 3 times in just 2 hours, yet remain comfortable on the nose.
At first sight, it omits a very clear green tone with a little floral fragrance, which fully expresses the theme of the roof garden.
One hour later, it turns into a floral fragrance; sweet and comfortable.
Two hours later, the perfume turns into a cleaner and warmer floral fragrance. The back of it is woodier, but the overall feeling is good.
Top: 7.5
Middle: 8.5
Base: 7.5
In conclusion, Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit is an ideal perfume for summer or a sunny vacation. It’s perfect to wear for a brunch date or to brighten one’s work day. With one spray, the wearer will be mentally transported to the beautiful Hermes rooftop garden in Paris.
An older scent than our last choice, Eau des Merveilles Bleue has been gracing noses since its launch in 2004. Its name means “Water of Wonders” and “has been the key that opens the door to the wonders of Hermes.“
The round bottle signifies a magnifying glass, meant to encourage us to look deeper into the magic of the world by seeing it from new and marvelous angles.
Capturing the fresh and delicate feelings of childhood dreams and feminity, Eau des Merveilles Bleue’s top notes smell the sea and woodsy elements. Middle notes consist of patchouli (robust and earthy) and mineral stone, followed by a base of juniper berries.
Eau des Merveilles Bleue is suitable for both males and females because of the middle notes of mysterious ambergris.
The theme of this perfume seemed citrusy. They felt a soapy scent on the top, middle, and base.
The top notes came across as 75% citrus and only 25% ocean. For a perfume that is characterized as “a sparkling and brisk plunge into the deep sea” by Hermes, it did not feel woody nor salty as the fragrance table describes.
Ten minutes after application, it turned into a soapy citrus scent. Patchouli then appeared and the salty taste remained a little bit, but the woodsy scents were dim.
Two hours later, oceanic begins to become the main note and it is kept for about 2 more hours.
Six hours later, the scent changes to a very nice white musk.
One expert said this was the best base note in the 4 Hermes perfumes he had tried today (Hermès 24 Faubourg, Hermès Eau des Merveilles Bleue, Hermès Jour d’Hermes, and Hermès Terre d’Hermes Parfum).
Top: 7 (Fresh and comfortable)
Middle: 6.5 (Lack of a memorable point)
Base: 7.5 (We personally liked it)
Eau des Merveilles Bleue is highly recommended for those who like refreshing scents or wish to smell like summer. Its fresh and delicate notes are perfect for men or women because they are rooted in the scents of ocean water and stone. This perfume would make the ideal choice for a scenic, seaside getaway.
Bold, feminine, and mischievous, Twilly d’Hermes tells the story of young women. This warm and sensual EDP (Eau de perfume) was designed to celebrate those “who swim against the tide, impose their own rhythm.”
Adorned with a hand-tied silk ribbon, Twilly’s playful bottle is the ideal scent for the Hermes girl. It is meant to be daring but sweet, and spicy but floral.
The top notes of Twilly d’Hermes play off ginger, bitter orange, and bergamot. The citrus entrance is met with middle floral notes of tuberose, orange blossom, and jasmine. Finally, its base lingers with rich sandalwood and sweet vanilla.
As one may guess from the bottle’s appearance, Twilly d’Hermes is most suitable for females. Its feminine notes simply project a girlie nature.
The notes found on the internet are explained above, however, the overall feeling was a bit different than the fragrance table.
At first, tuberose is much more obvious. One hour later, the scent of orange blossom appears with a hint of rose—a note never listed in the Hermes description.
Three hours after application, only a soapy scent remained. It is meant to be an all-purpose female fragrance but left no notable memory point. Most of the notes listed in the table were not detectable.
Five to 6 hours later, we smelled nothing but soapy rose, similar to the finishing notes of PENHALIGON’S The Luke.
Top: 7.5
Middle: 6.5
Base: 6.5
The most notable characteristic of Twilly d’Hermes Eau Ginger is peony.
Compared to the middle notes of Twilly d’Hermes EDP where orange blossom and rose appear alternately, this one is more linear, with peony all the way. Despite the name, the scent of ginger is not obvious in Twilly d’Hermès Eau Ginger, nor Twilly d’Hermes EDP.
The overall feeling of Eau Ginger is a little lighter than Twilly d’Hermes EDP. But take note, its longevity is the worst of these 3 Twilly fragrances.
The biggest difference Eau Poivree holds is that it is the sweetest of the Twilly series. Overall, it gives off sweet, floral scents.
Two hours after application, this fragrance emits a soapy scent that is much sweeter than Twilly d’Hermes EDP.
After 5 hours, there is a slight Patchouli scent, giving it more earthiness.
Twilly d’Hermes is a beautifully sweet fragrance beloved by many—and for good reason. Since it is on the sweet side, it leans toward the spring and summer seasons, although it can easily be worn day and night. It would make the perfect gift for a female, given its cute ribbon aesthetic, feminine charm, and empowering story behind its invention.
This Twilly version makes you think pink. From its bright pink bottle to the pink hand-tied ribbon, Eau Poivrée is a vibrant perfume showcasing the spice of pink peppercorn and the freshness of rose. It also emits patchouli for a woody break.
Of the 3 Twilly perfumes in this article, this is the sweetest. However, the pink peppercorn is quite fragrant and spicy, so not everyone will adore it.
If you love the sweet and spicy scent of Twilly d’Hermes, you should consider this version.
For a more unstated feminine scent, you should consider the Eau Ginger. This Twilly version was formulated to share “the sparkle of the Hermes girls.” It’s a bright, welcoming fragrance with floral peony, the sweet spice of candied ginger, and the woody scent of cedar.
Of the 3 Twilly perfumes, this was launched in 2021 making it new to many.
If you are seeking a less sweet and more energizing, uplifting scent, you should consider this version.
Just as the bold, warm bottle suggests, Hermes Elixir des Merveilles is all about amber. It is part of the Merveilles series at Hermes, and the expert nose behind this rendition is Jean-Claude Ellena.
Of the series, Elixir des Merveilles is a classic woody scent that launched in 2006. It is both earthy and woody, building a beautiful fragrance for women without the use of sweet or floral notes.
Immediately, top notes of caramel, orange peel, resin, and balsam hit the nose. It develops with middle notes of vanilla, sandalwood, and tonka bean. Over time, it finishes with the earthy aromas of amber, oak, and patchouli.
So, what does the outdoors smell like to Hermes? Our expert 5-point test concludes that the overall feeling is the less sweet version of Twilly. Why? The top and middle notes are similar.
Suitable for a female preference, Elixir des Merveilles has a weaker projection than Twilly. One reviewer sprayed this one, still smelling a strong lingering scent of Twilly.
As for subjective notes, this perfume is indeed woody but floral notes stay very relevant. The woody scents only become apparent after an hour or so.
The provided fragrance table does not mention floral notes, but the first hour truly feels like a floral fragrance, and the elemi only appears in the middle and later.
The ambergris appeared about 3 hours after application. It was mysterious and charming, but unfortunately, short-lived.
After reviewing multiple of these Hermes perfumes in a sitting, the base notes of Twilly and Un Jardin Sur le Toit were still noticeable, yet this one, Elixir des Merveilles, faded very quickly.
Top: 7
Middle: 6.5
Base: 7
Elixir des Merveilles is an exquisite choice for an autumn or winter fragrance. Its uniquely feminine notes complement its woody foundation and make it appealing to a female who wants an alternative to a sweet, summer perfume. Elixir des Merveilles’ understated appeal also makes it an ideal fragrance for work or a professional setting.
If Twilly was designed for the Hermes woman, H24 puts men center stage. Meet H24, the first perfume “expressing the contemporary man as seen by Hermes.”
The modern man has changed in recent decades and Hermes designed this fragrance to capture that. It was recently launched in 2021 and was formulated to represent a blend of nature and technology—and even sustainability. H24 bottles have an aerodynamic shape and are refillable, housed in a 100% recycled and recyclable paper case.
According to Hermes, the contemporary man smells warm, metallic, and bright. H24 opens with notes of enveloping sage then transitions to a manly floral narcissus, finishing with the warmth of rosewood.
For any perfume aficionado, H24 is intriguing because it is NEWLY RELEASED! Although it was designed for men, it is suitable for both men and women because it is not overly strong.
At first, its aroma is stronger, but not aggressive by any means. It has a green, nature-like smell up front.
One hour later, it developed a slight tobacco smell. Ninety minutes after that, we detected very light ambergris and rosewood.
Overall, the scent was light and could easily be overtaken by surrounding smells. However, 4 hours after application, the scent seemed to maintain strength and was heavier than the Twilly series.
The final smells seemed like a combination of various popular male fragrances. The finishing notes held a tobacco-like base that stuck around for about 6 hours.
Interestingly enough, the test paper of H24 smelled entirely different than it did on human skin. The green smell appeared on the test paper and even seemed a little floral, and no tobacco smell emerged at all.
Top: 7
Middle: 6.5
Base: 6.5
In short, H24 is new to the market and worthy of your attention. Perfect for long work days with its subtle nature, H24 can seamlessly transition from day to night. Its sensual but bright notes are fresh yet manly, and since it is not too strong, it’s a modern fragrance many will enjoy.
Since 2013, Jour d’Hermes has remained a top choice for perfume lovers worldwide. Its name translates to “a day of Hermes” and it was crafted to express “feminity with flowers, nothing but flowers.”
Jour d’Hermes smells like a blossoming bouquet signifying the birth and rebirth of women every day. Its natural and delicate scent highlights the divine feminine but maintains the mystery that each woman creates in this world.
Its top notes are bright consisting of grapefruit, lemon, and water. The heart of the perfume is the real bouquet; made from rose, tuberose, jasmine, gardenia, and more floral accents. Once faded, Jour d’Hermes leaves base notes of musk and wood scents.
Just as Hermes intended, Jour d’Hermes is most suitable for females.
Upon first contact, Jour d’Hermes is a quintessential all-purpose, floral, and feminine fragrance. After the rush of citrus faded, about 10 minutes later, we thought it smelled much like Merveilles Bleue.
Thirty minutes after application, white flowers and gardenias began to appear while the green elements almost disappeared completely.
Two hours later, it gives a sweeter floral-fruity aroma, but not citrusy. It smells more like a berry or peach.
After 3 hours, a soapy smell appears and the fruity scent lingered on.
Four hours after application, Jour d’Hermes is pure sweetness.
To be frank, we think the fragrance table is completely inaccurate. Let us explain.
The top only gives a little lemon on the test paper. The floral scent is heavier and completely overwhelms the grapefruit and water factors. The floral fragrance is there, but the main note is so sweet that the flowers are not the protagonist. And while there is musk on the fragrance table, it never smelled obvious on human skin. It did however come through on the test paper.
So, what’s the consensus? Jour d’Hermes EDP had the strongest smell but is still an elegant and light floral choice. Five hours after spritzing, Jour d’Hermes had the best longevity compared to four other perfumes in this review (Hermès 24 Faubourg, Hermès Eau des Merveilles Bleue, Hermès Jour d’Hermes, Hermès Terre d’Hermes Parfum).
Top: 6.5 (The top notes are very common.)
Middle: 6.5
Base: 6.5 (Its strong existence awarded it extra points.)
From dawn to dusk, Jour d’Hermes is a fragrance suitable to wear all day. Its versatile and floral nature makes it pleasing for daytime, but also alluring for a late date night. The heavy bouquet feeling of Jour d’Hermes makes it ideal for spring or summertime.
Jean Claude-Ellena wanted to inspire people to travel and experience a timeless and contemporary journey in the sun. Thus, the lighter version of the famous 24 Faubourg was born.
24 Faubourg Eau Delicate balances the traditional notes it was inspired by with new scents creating an entirely different perfume. It was conceived in 2003 and has been highly coveted ever since.
White florals envelop the top notes consisting of ylang-ylang, bergamot and hyacinth. Its deeper middle notes are iris, gardenia, and jasmine while the base holds sandalwood, amber, patchouli, and sweet vanilla.
Suitable for women, 24 Faubourg is a fusion of warm and sensual floral notes. The fragrance table above shares what the exact notes of 24 Fabubourg Eau Delicate are, however, we aren’t so sure.
Frankly, they found the fragrance table completely inaccurate. This perfume’s formula looks like a floral fragrance, but the actual condition is far from it on both the testing paper and the skin.
When applied to the skin, 24 Faubourg gives a very mature floral note with a touch of sandalwood. The smell of hyacinth is uncertain, but there is a presence of ylang-ylang. However, there is almost no feeling of orange, peach, and bergamot.
Within just 10 minutes, the smell is gone and a faint woody smell remained.
Thirty minutes after applying, gardenia and orange blossoms are the main notes. Jasmine also appears for a refreshing change. The iris notes are quiet, so overall, one can conclude it’s an overly white floral tone.
Amber and patchouli are nearly missing entirely from beginning to end. The main base note of vanilla provided a warm feeling after two hours.
Three hours later, it was a soapy floral scent. Four to 6 hours later, it was mostly musk.
On the test paper, this 24 Faubourg was a full white floral fragrance from start to finish. It was difficult to make out any other notes at all.
Top: 6.5 (The combination of floral and woody was preferable.)
Middle: 6.5 (With many white florals, it’s not so distinctive.)
Base: 6 (Personally, it was a good smell, but it’s too light for their preferences.)
A distinctive trait of 24 Faubourg Eau Delicate is that its aroma spans a wide range, making it suitable for younger and mature wearers. We think it is best worn for work or casual plans and for cooler, autumn weather.
Hermes released Kelly Caleche in 2007, but its story began long before that. It was crafted in 1961 as Hermes’ first fragrance for women. It’s highly feminine and woody and the name pays homage to the horse-drawn carriages so closely related to the house of Hermes.
Many women don’t want to smell overly sweet, so Kelly Caleche is a welcomed alternative offering a floral woody musk fragrance. It is timeless and also finds a way to feel contemporary.
The notes of Kelly Caleche are warm and sensual, kicking off with the scent of grapefruit, narcissus, and lily of the valley. Its sweeter heart is made of rose, mimosa, and tuberose. Behind, it leaves the warm aroma of leather and iris.
Kelly Caleche is most suitable for females due to its obvious floral fragrances.
Of all the fragrances listed in the table, the most noticeable notes are grapefruit, rose, acacia, tuberose, and iris. They were mostly concentrated as top notes. Two hours after application, there was a very slight woody scent accented by faint leather.
If you love the scent of Kelly Caleche, just plan on reapplying regularly to enjoy it long-term.
EXTRA NOTES: The Kelly Caleche EDT and EDP are the same. Both are very light and only offer short longevity. We found that the EDP has a slightly sour wood smell in the middle, but the EDT does not.
Top: 7
Middle: 6
Base: 5
If you want a faint Hermes body spray, this is it. Kelly Caleche is regarded by Hermes as timeless, but we found it to be short on time altogether. On a positive note, it is still a lovely fragrance and its deep-rooted history with Hermes is impressive.
Terre d’Hermes, meaning “land of Hermes,” is a popular men’s fragrance from the French design house. It was inspired by the relationship between man and earth, meant to translate his humble nature with his habitat.
On a deeper level, Terre d’Hermes connects man back to his origins and represents “the source of his creative power.” It was created by perfume master Jean-Claude Ellena in 2006. One year later, it went on to win the FiFi Award for Men’s Fragrance of the Year.
This award-winning men’s fragrance is riddled with warm and dense components. It opens brightly with orange and grapefruit, with middle notes of flint. On the tail end, woodsy notes, oak moss, and benzoin finish this complex perfume.
This “land of Hermes” fragrance was conceived for men but it’s certainly suitable for both males and females.
The internet describes the notes of Terre d’Hermes in the table above, but we had a different experience; missing nearly all of the notes listed.
Upon immediate application (at 8:40), the smell became very light by 9:30. So, we reapplied at 9:40 to continue the trial. (Not off to a good start!)
Top notes of citrus and a little cedar came through, along with a little green. It felt refreshing, but not too youthful as the woody influence gave the fragrance more maturity.
Just 30 minutes later, it developed into a slightly woody yet soapy fragrance. On the test paper, the wood-like scent projected heavily. However, on human skin, it came off a bit soapier.
One hour after application, Terre d’Hermes smelt of soapy sandalwood. The wood scent from earlier seemed to develop into a truer sandalwood scent.
Jump to two hours and all of that completely faded out.
Then 3 hours later, a little ambergris appeared yet was underwhelming. Ambergris is a common base note for men’s fragrances.
In 5 hours, the scent was unnoticeable and all hints of notes had long left the skin.
Keep in mind that this review even included a reapplication and yet its longevity was still short. Terre d’Hermes lasted shorter than Jour d’Hermes and Elixir des Merveilles Hermes.
So, if you want a strong scent from Terre d’Hermes, be sure to spray a larger amount and note you may need to apply it throughout the day.
Top: 6.5 (Lack of any memorable point)
Middle: 6 (Simply too light.)
Base: 5 (Barely smelling it by the end lost multiple potential points.)
The beautiful backstory of this fragrance is admirable, but it’s hard to look past the weak projection and short longevity, especially for a luxury brand. In conclusion, Terre d’Hermes is a light (very light) men’s fragrance. It is ideal for those who want a subtle smell or to wear for daily use as it won’t overpower you.
