What Perfume Smells Like Dessert?

In this article, we are going to discuss what perfume smells like dessert, as we picked and listed top gourmand perfumes.

Sweet notes of vanilla, sugary candy, and rich caramel. These are the signature aromas of gourmand perfumes. Based on the Oriental style of perfumes, gourmands take vanilla from being just a note in an overall concoction to a dominating feature. Gourmand perfumes often feature scents inspired by chocolate, caramel, candy, and sweet alcohols. They are more like the dessert of the perfume world.

This is why gourmand perfumes tend to be sweeter than other styles of perfumes. However, don’t let this fool you. They are just as complex and well-made as any other perfume. These perfumes just have a different style and emphasis in their flavors. Many gourmand perfumes rely on synthetic ingredients and careful combinations to bring to life their desserty smells, rather than outright extraction and essential oils.

Fruity florals or musky woody scents have been particularly popular styles of perfume in recent years, but gourmands remain consistently popular. Gourmand scents tend to make people feel comforted and familiar. They can be very evocative, bringing to mind exotic stories and warm memories, more like comfort blankets than just a perfume. These are the kinds of perfume that people turn to when they feel in need of security and well-being.

Many brands of perfumes feature gourmand styles, such as Calvin Klein, Mugler and Lancôme, that are sweet, decadent and indulgent. As with desserts, most people will find one that suits their personal style and tastes.

This could include a perfume that is like a sweet and fruity tart, or one that is like a rich and chocolatey cake. Or it could mean a perfume that is syrupy and exotic like honey baklava or has the slightly bitter warmth of tiramisu.  There is something for everyone.

So what perfumes smell like dessert?

Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo – Tiramisu

Sweet perfumes are often thought of as only for women, so men may not think a dessert-inspired fragrance is for them. However, with Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo, even men can try this delectable trend. Although women will no doubt love it too!

Launched in 2016, Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo is a masculine style of perfume. It is a more woody scent than most gourmand style perfumes, giving it a strong Italian feel.

“A sense of elegance and beauty. All the optimism and joy of a real smile”.

Alberto Morillas and Aurelien Guichard created Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo.

Notes

Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo features top notes of black pepper, cardamom, and bergamot. But the middle notes are where the gourmand influence is really strong. The smell of warm tiramisu dominates. Under this, the base notes are cashmere and sandalwood, contributing to that overall woodiness.

People who are not fans of tiramisu will not like this perfume at all. The smell is quite strong of that coffee-laden dessert. You may find yourself craving one at the end of the night!

Occasion and Longevity

This perfume is great for cooler weather, winter, and fall. The sensual scent would work well over a leather jacket in the daytime. Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo brings to mind old-style Italian charm and class. It could work as a night-time perfume, but the occasion would need to be carefully selected. It may not work for a date for example but might suit a formal event.

Uomo by Salvatore Ferragamo has a sweeter edge that may be better suited to younger wearers. It would be particularly good for people between 20-30 years old, with the old-style influences mixed with youthful sweetness.

Salvatore Ferragamo Uomo is long-lasting, so it should last the duration of any event.

Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden – Japanese Matcha

Elizabeth Arden Green Tea

Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden was one of the first popular gourmand perfumes. This perfume was launched in 1999 and was created by Francis Kukdijan.

This green tea perfume is the citrus style of gourmand perfume. It is just like the name says, inspired by downy-soft matcha green tea desserts. Fresh and light with the citrus, but with the softer tones of green tea. It is an unusual but special perfume that will suit many women.

Even the bottle hints at the natural scents inside, with scrolled writing and a simple leaf design across a pale green bottle.

Notes

Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden is a citrus style of gourmand perfume. The top notes are rhubarb, mint, orange peel, and lemon. The combination of these notes makes the perfume almost smell like a summer day itself. Then the middle notes are carnation, musk, jasmine, oakmoss, and fennel. These notes give a slightly warm infusion into the overall scent. Finally, the base notes are caraway, amber, jasmine, cloves and celery seeds, all combined with the essence of green tea.

Together, the notes give this perfume a sweet and dessert-inspired flavor, although some people may find the lemon scent too strong.

Occasions and Longevity

Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden is definitely a daytime use only perfume. The light scent is not suitable for evening wear, as it will quickly get lost in other more dramatic aromas. It is a very bright, fresh scent that is perfect for warmer weather. For example, a day in the office or in classes would be a great way to wear this perfume.

Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden is a moderate to weak lasting perfume. Therefore, it is not well suited for longer occasions. Or, you might need to bring the bottle along with you for touch-ups!

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine – Orange Juice

Another citrus style of gourmand perfume is Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine. This perfume combines the bright citrusy scents of fresh fruits with the darker tones of an oriental base. It is a unique and enjoyable scent that brings to mind summer days under flower-laden orange trees in exotic countries.

This imagery shows in the bottle too. The bottle features a very Arabian Nights style of writing, placed over the richly orange perfume.

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine was created by Ralf Schwieger. It was launched in 2010.

Notes

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine features a combination of two types of orange flavor. These flavors, red and bitter orange, make orange the dominant note in this perfume. These notes blend with jasmine, geranium, tonka bean, and sandalwood. Overall, the combination of flavors means it is less a sickly sweet orange perfume, but more of a complex orange inspired compilation. There is also an edge of bitterness to the scent, which again, makes it feel more complex.

As a gourmand perfume, Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine channels zesty fresh orange juice as a refreshing dessert.

Occasions and Longevity

The strong orange notes of Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine mean it is a good perfume for use during the day. It is not suited for an evening event, nor for colder weather where it will not bring enough warmth or depth. But you will be impressed at the brightness that this perfume brings if you wear it on a warm summer day.

Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine is a moderate lasting perfume, especially when compared to some other citrus-based perfumes. However, some people may find it does not stay well on their skin.

Angel Muse, Hazelnut Cocoa

Thierry Mugler Angel Muse

One of the most popular flavors of dessert in many countries is the luxurious taste of hazelnut and chocolate. That is the dominating smell of Angel Muse by Thierry Mugler.

Mugler actually launched the very first gourmand perfume, with the release of the first Angel perfume in 1992. This perfume is a new take on the classic original. It was launched in 2016 with much fanfare. With a brighter and more modern note, Angel Muse brought new life back into the gourmand genre.

Even the face of the campaign kept references to the original. Georgia May Jagger fronted the new campaign, following after her mother, Jerry Hall, who did the original fragrance.

When Angel Muse was launched, it was declared as:

“The new Eau de Parfum you will hate to love”.

Notes

Angel Muse features sweet creamy notes, with patchouli, cocoa, and hazelnut all combined to bring its distinctive aroma. It has a more masculine and woody edge than many gourmand perfumes. Overall, it has a feel similar to a hazelnut coffee, sweet but with a slight bitterness.

Occasion and Longevity

Unlike many gourmand perfumes, Angel Muse works almost equally well for day and night occasions. You could use it in the office and then keep wearing it in the evening. It makes a great Friday perfume, especially as it is quite a sophisticated scent! The warming feeling of the earthy nut aroma means this perfume works really well in cooler weather when you want to feel like you are wrapped in a comfortable warm blanket.

Some people may not like the patchouli notes in this perfume and others may people may find it a little chemical in smell. However, for those that want to channel a sophisticated, classic dessert, without any of the calories, Angel Muse might be just what you are looking for.

Elie Saab Girl of Now, Nutty Honey

Elie Saab Girl of Now

One of the newest gourmand perfumes is Elie Saab Girl of Now. A beautiful mix of oriental and floral styles, Elie Saab Girl of Now was released in 2017. This sweet treat of perfume smells just like a baklava dessert, oozing honey and decadent nuttiness.

Elie Saab Girl of Now is a particularly feminine perfume that has a very luxurious and sophisticated feel. The bottle reflects this, with crystal-like decoration and gold accents. It looks more like a decoration than a bottle of perfume. However, despite the youthful bottle, Elie Saab Girl of Now is not a youthful perfume. It is complex and mature, suited to a woman over 30 more than a younger wearer.

Dominique Ropion and Sophie Labbe created Elie Saab Girl of Now.

Notes

Elie Saab Girl of Now has notes that almost perfectly channel the ingredients of baklava. Sweet top notes of orange, pear, and pistachio are layered over middle notes of orange blossom, magnolia, and almond. The base notes are patchouli, tonka bean, and almond milk.

The combination of flavors in these notes means Elie Saab Girl of Now is sweet but not overly sweet, with the nutty notes giving it a real depth.

Occasion and Longevity

Elie Saab Girl of Now is almost designed for fall daytime events or occasions. Office, classes, social gatherings all work well for this perfume. It would be particularly good for younger wearers who want to appear older or more serious, such as in a job interview or important presentation, but not as a regular wear perfume.

Other women may find it works well for a day to day use perfume. Elie Saab Girl of Now is a long-lasting perfume on most people. The scent is relatively stable once applied.
